Combat King 004

Combat King 004 is a special magazine in Final Fantasy VIII that teaches the character Zell new Duel skills. Unlike other magazines, Combat King 004 doesn't offer any item refinement or weapon upgrade capabilities; its main purpose is to unlock Zell's special ability "Different Beat." Players can use these skills by inputting the correct button combinations even without reading the magazine, but they won't appear as options in the menu. The Combat King series of magazines is scattered throughout the game; some can be purchased from shops, while others need to be found in specific locations or acquired by completing certain quests. Combat King 004 is obtained after liberating Balamb and is tied to a side quest involving a library girl. After sleeping at the Balamb hotel, players must go downstairs and talk to a girl with pigtails, who will give Zell the magazine. By collecting the Combat King series, Zell can learn and utilize various powerful Duel skills, improving his performance in battle.
