LV Up

In Final Fantasy VIII, "LV Up" or "Level Up" is a unique command ability that raises an enemy's level during battle. This ability is learned by the Guardian Force Tonberry, obtained by defeating a specific Tonberry King. Using "LV Up" can effectively increase an enemy's level, typically doubling it each use, up to a maximum of 100. This directly affects the enemy's stats, making them more challenging, but it also means they will drop higher-level items, allow for rarer steals, give more experience points, and enable drawing more powerful magic. While this ability offers many benefits, bosses and certain enemies are immune to level changes. If the player removes the ability using Amnesia Greens, it can't be regained. Thus, using "LV Up" requires careful consideration of the risks and rewards, especially on specific enemies for rare items and magic. It is an important part of strategic combat in Final Fantasy VIII.
