In Final Fantasy VIII, "Enc-Half," or "エンカウント半減," is a support ability that, when equipped to a party member, reduces the rate of random encounters by 75%. Despite its name suggesting a 50% reduction, the actual effect is more significant. This ability is learned by the Guardian Force Diablos after acquiring 30 AP, after which he can also learn "Enc-None," which completely eliminates random encounters. "Enc-Half" is very useful in the original game, helping players explore maps, gather resources, and complete tasks more quickly, especially in areas with time limits, or at resource-rich locations such as the 'Island Closest to Heaven' and the 'Island Closest to Hell.' However, its significance is diminished in Final Fantasy VIII Remastered because the remastered version allows players to turn off random encounters at any time. Nevertheless, in the early game when 'Enc-None' hasn't been learned yet, 'Enc-Half' remains a convenient choice. When preparing for boss battles, it is best to unequip this ability and use skills that enhance combat readiness instead. It's important to note that if this ability is removed with Amnesia Greens, it cannot be obtained again.
