Rare Item

In Final Fantasy VIII, "Rare Item" is a support ability learned by the Guardian Force Bahamut, costing 250 AP. Despite its name, it does not actually increase the chances of obtaining rare items; instead, it decreases the chances of getting the rarest spoils. The ability modifies the chances of receiving items from enemies, increasing the drop rate of items in the second slot while completely eliminating drops from the fourth slot. Since rarer items are usually in higher item slots, equipping this ability actually reduces the chances of obtaining them. Therefore, it is not recommended to equip this ability unless players have specific knowledge of enemy item drop configurations and have specific needs. In the early game, because Bahamut is acquired late and Rare Item ability cannot be used until after acquiring Bahamut, it is typically not useful in a normal playthrough. Additionally, Rare Item does not affect the results of the 'Angelo Search'.
