Great Salt Lake

The Great Salt Lake is a location in Final Fantasy VIII, situated on the Esthar continent. It was once a large salt lake teeming with life. However, experiments conducted by nearby Esthar destroyed all life, leaving behind a barren salt flat and large fossils, including the undead bones of Abadon. In the game, Squall and his party must traverse this area on their way to Esthar to find a way to cure Rinoa. The Great Salt Lake's interior is a dungeon that cannot be revisited. They defeat the undead boss Abadon here and discover a hidden entrance, eventually passing through an optical camouflage system to enter the hidden city of Esthar. The background music for this location is titled "The Salt Flats." A past view of the Great Salt Lake during Laguna's time was featured in an article of Timber Maniacs magazine, showing its vibrant state. The Great Salt Lake is located on the west side of Esthar City on the world map and is on the western side of the camouflage wall hiding the city from view.
