Lunar Gate

The Lunar Gate is a significant location in Final Fantasy VIII, situated east of Esthar City. This facility is used by Esthar as a spaceport to transport personnel to the Lunar Base via small shuttles. To send passengers into space, they must enter a space capsule and then undergo cold sleep, rendering them unconscious for the duration of their journey. They are then launched into space from a cannon-like apparatus. Upon arrival at the Lunar Base, passengers are "thawed". In the storyline, Squall Leonhart travels with a comatose Rinoa Heartilly and a companion through the Lunar Gate to reach the Lunar Base. The Lunar Gate's design blends modern and futuristic elements, making it a pivotal scene and crucial location for the story's progression. Beyond the main storyline, the Lunar Gate features unique rules for the "Triple Triad" mini-game and side quests. The facility's interior includes a lobby with gold finishes and luminous blue windows, and golden tubes that transport individuals to the boosters and into space. A control room is staffed by scientists who monitor the cold sleep and launch processes.
