Shumi Village, (シュミ族の村), is an optional location in Final Fantasy VIII (ファイナルファンタジーVIII). It is located 323 meters underground on Winter Island in the cold northern reaches of the world map but is characterized by a warm and comfortable climate. The village is home to the Shumi, a race of short, gentle, humanoid creatures known for their oversized hands and love of art. The Shumi have a unique culture, evolving into different forms, the most common being Moombas, and those who demonstrate certain traits towards the Shumi community may become an Elder. The village has little contact with the outside world, though the Shumi are not hostile towards other races. Key features include the village's outer dome structure, a draw point with Ultima magic, and a statue related to Laguna Loire from the Final Fantasy series. Players can explore the village and complete several side quests associated with it, including collecting stones and helping with the completion of Laguna's statue. The village also features a notable location from the Final Fantasy game series and some rare items that can be used to enhance character stats.
