Esthar - Talle Mountains

Esthar is a major political power in Final Fantasy VIII, and also the name of its capital city. It is located on the large continent east of Galbadia, serving as Galbadia’s main political rival, and its territory spans the entire eastern continent. Esthar is technologically advanced and is governed by a president. The city itself has been hidden from the world using a cloaking device known as the Optical Camouflage System (OCS) since the Sorceress War. Esthar was founded by people who immigrated to a continent east of Centra around the same time as the Dollet Empire. Its mild climate and the temperament of its people led to scientific advancements. Esthar started the Sorceress War, fighting against the world under Adel’s rule, with both sorceress and scientific powers posing a worldwide threat. After abruptly declaring an end to the war, Esthar closed its borders and remained silent. Esthar's military power exceeds Galbadia's, with enhanced soldiers wielding swords with built-in shotguns and developing mechanized soldiers. President Laguna Loire governs the nation with his aides. Concern over Dr. Odine's inventions led to the country’s isolation for 17 years. In the game, Squall and his party enter Esthar searching for Ellone, ultimately becoming involved in stopping the plot of the sorceress Ultimecia.
