Esthar - Sollet Mountains

Esthar is one of the main political powers in Final Fantasy VIII, and also the name of its capital city, Esthar City. Located on the large continent to the east of Galbadia, Esthar is Galbadia's major political rival, with its territory spanning the entire eastern continent. Esthar is technologically advanced and is governed by a president. The city itself has been hidden from the world using a cloaking device called the Optical Camouflage System (OCS) since the Sorceress War. Esthar was initially founded by immigrants who arrived on the continent east of Centra around the same time as the Dollet Empire. The mild climate and the people's temperament soon led to scientific advancement. Under Adel's rule, Esthar started the Sorceress War, fighting against the world. Their sorceress and scientific powers posed a worldwide threat. After suddenly declaring an end to the war, Esthar closed its borders and has remained silent ever since. Esthar's military power exceeds that of Galbadia. Their soldiers are equipped with special armor and wield swords with built-in shotguns. Esthar is developing mechanized soldiers that will eventually replace humans in the military. Esthar's president is Laguna, who closed the country for 17 years, concerned about the negative effect Dr. Odine's inventions could have on world security. Esthar's capital is hidden by the OCS, and the Horizon Bridge is the only way to enter the country.
