Final Fantasy VIII is a role-playing video game developed by Square (now Square Enix) for the PlayStation in 1999, serving as the eighth main installment in the Final Fantasy series. Set in a fantasy world with science fiction elements, the game follows Squall Leonhart and his companions as they become entangled in a conflict sparked by the sorceress Edea Kramer. It introduced the unique 'Draw' and 'Junction' systems, which replace traditional magic points and allow players to extract spells from enemies and environments and then junction them to characters to enhance their stats. The game also features a collectible card game called 'Triple Triad'. Known for its realistic character proportions, innovative battle mechanics, and touching romance, Final Fantasy VIII is a highly acclaimed entry in the series and has been re-released and ported to multiple platforms.
