Buel (ブエル) is a recurring enemy in Final Fantasy VIII. It is typically depicted as a winged demon, often a variant of the Ahriman. In the game, Buel appears in several locations including the Fire Cavern, Tomb of the Unknown King, Balamb Garden, Centra Ruins, Deep Sea Research Center, and Ultimecia Castle. Buel is vulnerable to physical attacks and uses magic attacks. It employs various magic spells, gaining access to Reflect and Death at higher levels. In battle, players can draw Thunder magic from Buels, and they are a good source of AP early on. Buel also appears as a card in the Triple Triad minigame of Final Fantasy VIII, as a Level 2 Monster Card, usable for playing the game and turning into Magic Stones via Quezacotl's Card Mod ability. Furthermore, Buel has made appearances in several other Final Fantasy titles such as Final Fantasy X, Final Fantasy XII, Final Fantasy XIV, and various spin-offs. Buel's name originates from the 16th-century grimoire, Pseudomonarchia Daemonum, which describes Buer as the president of Hell, commanding fifty legions of demons.
