Cactuar (Japanese: サボテンダー, Sabotendā), also known as Sabotender, is a recurring iconic creature in the Final Fantasy series. It first appeared as an enemy in Final Fantasy VI and is known for its unique design and battle style. Cactuars are typically depicted as anthropomorphic cacti with stiff limbs, three black dots on their faces (representing two eyes and an oblong mouth), and three yellow quills on top of their heads, often in a running or dashing pose. They are renowned for their high evasion and signature ability, '1000 Needles,' which deals a fixed 1000 damage, ignoring defense. In Final Fantasy VIII, Cactuar can also be summoned as a Guardian Force, whose attack power depends on its level, capable of dealing extremely high damage at high levels. They are usually elusive enemies in the game, but also a good source of experience and money. Cactuar's design is inspired by designer Tetsuya Nomura's high school doodles, combined with elements of Japanese Haniwa, making it a famous icon in the Final Fantasy series.
