Gayla

In Final Fantasy VIII, Gayla (ゲイラ) is a multifaceted concept, referring both to an enemy and a card in the game. As an enemy, Gayla is a flying manta ray-like monster that appears on the Trabia continent. It uses hypnosis to induce sleep in player characters, and attacks with headbutts. Its skill called 'Gastric Juice' deals damage equal to 50% of the target's current HP. Gayla can drop 'Mystery Fluids' which can be used for Quistis to learn the Blue Magic spell 'Acid', and to refine into the powerful spell 'Meltdown'. As a card, Gayla is a Level 1 monster card, obtainable early in the game from defeating Gayla monsters or from specific NPCs, or as part of the starting deck. This card is used in the 'Triple Triad' minigame, and can be transformed into 'Mystery Fluids' using Quezacotl's Card Mod ability. Collecting Gayla cards is useful early in the game, as the Mystery Fluids can further be turned into 'Meltdown', a very strong spell in the game for boss battles and junctioning to Vitality.
