Grand Mantis

Grand Mantis (グランデアーロ) is an enemy and a card in Final Fantasy VIII. As an enemy, it is a giant insect encountered on the Centra continent. Its Japanese name can actually translate to "Grand Lobster." It is known for its powerful "Super Arm" attack, which always scores a critical hit, and it can also inflict Silence with its "Melting Bubble" attack. Grand Mantis is weak against Thunder and Ice attacks and has high HP and Vitality, making it easier to defeat using magic. As a card, it is a Level 2 Triple Triad card, which is not particularly strong, but can be useful when using the Same or Plus rules. The card can be obtained by defeating the monster of the same name, or it can be converted into Sharp Spikes through the Card Mod ability, an item used for crafting AP Ammo for Irvine. The Grand Mantis card is also part of the collectible card set released in 1999 for Final Fantasy VIII.
