Grat is a common enemy in Final Fantasy VIII, primarily found in the Balamb Garden training center and the final dungeon. It is a plant-type creature known for its status attacks and is one of the few random encounters immune to ejecting attacks. Grat uses attacks such as 'Sleeping Gas,' 'Vampire,' and 'Gastric Juices.' 'Sleeping Gas' can inflict sleep on the entire party, 'Vampire' deals damage while restoring Grat's HP, and 'Gastric Juices' can inflict poison. Grat is vulnerable to ice and fire attacks, making it a good source of Sleep and Silence magic early in the game. It is also a Triple Triad card, obtainable through battles or card games, and can be converted into a Magic Stone using Quezacotl's Card Mod. A scene in the film 'Charlie's Angels' features characters battling Grats, showing its recognition within the game.
