Left Orb(Boss)

The Left Orb is part of the boss NORG in Final Fantasy VIII, an attachment on the NORG Pod that casts magic on the party. It is the orb on the left from the player's perspective. The Left Orb changes color from blue to yellow to red. As stated by NORG at the start of the battle, when red, the Left Orb will use powerful magic like Tornado and Bio. However, a simple attack on the orb will turn it blue again. The Left Orb cannot be destroyed and has massive defense, rendering even powerful attacks like the Lion Heart Limit Break to only a few hundred damage. Even if its HP is reduced to 0, it will simply regenerate. Its Japanese name comes from Turkish words for “right” and “fortress”. In battle, the Left Orb will use different magic depending on its color. Players need to control its color through attacks to reduce its threat. Note that the Left Orb has a very high defense and even powerful attacks will not deal significant damage. Usually, the focus should be on attacking NORG itself while handling the Left Orb's magic attacks strategically.
