The Ruby Dragon, also known as Rubrum Dragon (ルブルムドラゴン), is a formidable enemy in Final Fantasy VIII and a recurring monster in the series. In Final Fantasy VIII, players encounter the Ruby Dragon in various locations, including the Deep Sea Research Center, the Centra forests near Edea's House, the Island Closest to Hell, and Ultimecia Castle. It also appears in a dream sequence with Laguna. The Ruby Dragon is known for its powerful attacks, including a party-wide "Breath" attack, as well as high-level magic such as Flare and Meteor. High-level Ruby Dragons are valuable for drawing powerful spells and permanently raising a character's HP when devoured. In Final Fantasy VIII, the Ruby Dragon is also a Triple Triad card, obtainable through the card game or by carding the enemy. It is a high-value level 5 card that can be refined into Inferno Fangs. Ruby Dragons have appeared in other Final Fantasy titles, usually as powerful foes.
