Turtapod

Turtapod, also known as グラナトゥム in Japanese, is an enemy in Final Fantasy VIII, characterized by its small turtle-like appearance. It is known for its defensive stance and its association with the unique 'Angelo Search' trick. When a Turtapod reaches level 30 or higher, it will retreat into its shell and enter a defensive mode upon being hit by a physical attack. If afflicted with Confuse status while in this defensive mode, it will remain curled up indefinitely without attacking. Players can exploit this mechanic to passively farm items by allowing Rinoa's pet Angelo to search for items repeatedly during battle. Turtapods themselves are not particularly threatening, as they possess weak attacks. In the game, it is also a Level 4 Triple Triad card, obtainable from defeating enemies or playing the card game. The Turtapod card can be modified into Healing Mail, which is used to enhance Guardian Forces or for healing. This enemy and card both serve a unique purpose in the game, making them easily recognizable.
