The Wendigo (ウェンディゴ) is a recurring creature in the Final Fantasy series, first appearing in Final Fantasy VIII. Though its appearance varies, it is typically depicted as a sometimes headless, giant, ape-like or undead humanoid. In Final Fantasy VIII, Wendigos are commonly encountered in forests around Timber, in various areas of Galbadia, and within the Stairway Hall and Passageway of the final dungeon. It primarily uses physical attacks, making it vulnerable to status ailments like 'Blind'. The Wendigo is also available as a Level 4 Triple Triad card with a value of 7/6/3/1. The Wendigo appears in different forms throughout the Final Fantasy series. It serves as a boss in Final Fantasy X, a skeletal enemy in Final Fantasy XI, an ice-based enemy in Final Fantasy XII, and even a wight in the original release of Final Fantasy XIV. The creature's inspiration comes from the cannibalistic monster of Algonquian folklore, embodying themes of gluttony, greed, and excess.
