Athena Asamiya is a character created by SNK (now SNK Playmore) in 1987, first appearing in the game Psycho Soldier. She is one of the most iconic characters in The King of Fighters (ザ・キング・オブ・ファイターズ) series, renowned for her psychic powers and idol-like persona. Athena is an esper, possessing the ability to use mental powers. She is a member of the Psycho Soldier Team in the King of Fighters series, fighting alongside Sie Kensou and Chin Gentsai. Over time, her outfits and hairstyles have continuously changed, but she has maintained high popularity throughout the games. Besides her frequent appearances in the King of Fighters series, she also starred in her own adventure game, Athena: Awakening from the Ordinary Life. Her character design is inspired by the protagonist of SNK's earlier game, Athena, and she is one of the few female protagonists in fighting games. Her versatile outfits and distinctive character have made her one of the most beloved characters in gaming history.
