Maki Kagura, also known as Maki Yata, is a character in The King of Fighters series. She was first mentioned in The King of Fighters '96, but made her physical debut as a sub-boss in The King of Fighters 2003. She is the deceased elder twin sister of Chizuru Kagura and a member of the Yata clan, tasked with maintaining the seal on Orochi. Maki was mortally wounded in her youth while fighting Goenitz, a member of the Orochi's Hakkesshu, while trying to protect the seal. The Maki who appears in The King of Fighters 2003 is an illusion created by Chizuru using the Yata Mirror while she was under the control of Botan from Those from the Past. Maki is serious-minded, concerned about the fate of her clan, and the illusion of her also displays strong sense of duty to the seal. Her fighting style is similar to Chizuru's, but she focuses more on using mirror images. She is powerful enough to defeat large characters. Maki and Chizuru share a three-tier life bar; when one is defeated, the other falls as well. It's possible Maki was resurrected after Verse's defeat in KOF XIV. Maki is voiced by Kazuyo Inosako.
