May Lee Jinju, commonly known as May Lee, is a character in The King of Fighters series. She first appeared in The King of Fighters 2001 as a member of the Korea Team. May Lee is portrayed as a perky teenager who fights for justice using Taekwondo. She is unique within The King of Fighters for her ability to transform into a "Hero Mode," in which she dons large gloves and a red scarf. She is cheerful and energetic, approaching justice with an almost childlike wonder and excitement. She has a strong master-disciple relationship with Kim Kaphwan, always seeking his approval and trying to live up to his teachings. May Lee's fighting style is unique, as she can switch between "Standard Mode," where she mainly uses Taekwondo moves, and "Hero Mode," which involves more powerful attacks inspired by tokusatsu heroes. Her design was initially inspired by a sponsor's desire for a "Korean Athena," but she evolved into a unique character with a strong tokusatsu influence. She has a strong sense of justice, dislikes evil, and demonstrates incredible perseverance and determination in battle.
