In The King of Fighters series, the clones of Kyo Kusanagi are a significant concept, primarily manifesting in three forms: KUSANAGI, Kyo-1, and Kyo-2. KUSANAGI first appeared as a hidden character in The King of Fighters 2002, and later returned as a mandatory mid-boss in The King of Fighters 2003. His inclusion was driven by a desire to bring back Kyo's older look. Kyo-1 and Kyo-2 debuted as selectable characters in The King of Fighters '99. These clones were created by the NESTS organization in an attempt to mass-produce Kyo, but each has a slightly different personality and fighting style compared to the original Kyo. Kyo-1 is more serious and his fighting style is closer to that of Kyo in The King of Fighters '94 and '95, while Kyo-2 is more lighthearted with a fighting style resembling Kyo in The King of Fighters '96. These clones not only add playability to the game but also provide rich background to the storyline.
