Saisyu Kusanagi is a character from the fighting game series The King of Fighters. He is the father of Kyo Kusanagi and the previous master of the Kusanagi style of ancient martial arts. He first appeared in The King of Fighters '94 as one of Rugal Bernstein's defeated fighters. In The King of Fighters '95, he was brainwashed and appeared as a mid-boss, and later became a playable character in The King of Fighters '98. Saisyu is portrayed as a more mellow version of his son Kyo, yet shares the same arrogance and cockiness. A master of the Kusanagi martial arts, he uses fire-based attacks, employing a simple and effective fighting style that reflects a more traditional approach. He also appears in the story, training Shingo Yabuki in the Kusanagi martial arts. Saisyu often displays a mature, laid-back attitude, but is still a formidable fighter and an important figure within the Kusanagi clan.
