K9999, also known as "Kay Four-Nine," is a character from the fighting game series The King of Fighters, debuting in The King of Fighters 2001. His design is heavily inspired by Tetsuo Shima from the 1988 anime film Akira, with clear homages in his personality, moveset, and voice acting. K9999 is a clone created by the NESTS organization to counter Kyo Kusanagi. He possesses immense power and a polymorphic arm, but due to his volatile temper and difficulty controlling his abilities, he was eventually removed from official SNK games and replaced by the character "Nameless". Despite this, K9999 remains popular among fans and has appeared in various unofficial fan works. In The King of Fighters XV, SNK introduced the character "Krohnen McDougall," whose appearance and abilities are similar to K9999, seen by many as K9999's return, revealing details about his past.
