Bao

Bao, also known as Pao (パオ), is a character in The King of Fighters series. He first appeared in The King of Fighters '99 as a new member of the Psycho Soldier Team. Bao is an abandoned orphan who grew up in a mountain temple in China, born on a cursed day that occurs only once every 200 years. He possesses powerful psychic abilities, which led to his adoption and training by Chin Gentsai, the master of Kensou. Bao works alongside Kensou and Athena Asamiya, and is considered a more “beginner-friendly” character in the team, with a relatively simple and effective moveset. However, his game mechanics are known for their varied commands, and he possesses excellent zoning capabilities, making him a formidable opponent due to his diverse fireball attacks. In the storyline, Bao shares a mysterious connection with Kensou through the "Dragon Spirit", which transfers power between them, affecting their psychic abilities. Though Bao tries to live as a normal child, he trains diligently to control his powers and shares a close sibling-like bond with Athena and Kensou.
