Adelheid Bernstein (アーデルハイド・バーンシュタイン), often shortened to Adel (アーデル), is a major character in The King of Fighters series. He first appears as an alternative final boss in The King of Fighters 2003 and returns as a mid-boss in The King of Fighters XI. Adelheid is the only son of the infamous crime mogul Rugal Bernstein and the older brother of Rose Bernstein. He is exceptionally gifted in the art of fighting and, despite his young age, is a powerful and talented fighter. Adelheid and his sister Rose command the flying fortress SKY-NOAH, where he confronts the winners of the 2003 King of Fighters tournament. In later tournaments, Adelheid returns as a single-entry fighter. When Rose falls under the control of a mysterious force known as "Those From The Distant Land," Adel coordinates with his father's mortal enemy, Heidern, to stop them from releasing the ancient serpent demon god, Orochi, and save his sister. Adelheid's fighting style is similar to his father's, but his moves are faster and easier to chain. He is an honorable fighter who demonstrates good sportsmanship, in contrast to his father's villainous nature.
