The King of Fighters (KOF), known in Japanese as ザ・キング・オブ・ファイターズ, is a renowned fighting game series developed by SNK. It's famous for its large roster of characters and the innovative "team" system, featuring both original designs and characters from other SNK games. The series debuted in 1994 on SNK's Neo Geo arcade platform and has since been ported to numerous other platforms. The KOF storyline revolves around the titular fighting tournament, which brings together characters from various SNK series, such as Fatal Fury and Art of Fighting. Each tournament has its own unique backstory and antagonist. For example, The King of Fighters '95 introduced Iori Yagami as Kyo Kusanagi's rival, starting the "Orochi Saga." Subsequent story arcs include the "NESTS Saga," the "Ash Saga," and the latest "New Saga." The King of Fighters series is popular for its fast-paced combat, diverse characters, compelling narratives, and ever-evolving gameplay mechanics. Players generally select a team of three fighters for combat, which differs from the traditional one-on-one format of other fighting games, adding more strategy and depth.
