Ernest Baldwin is a mysterious character appearing in the "Born from a Wish" scenario of *Silent Hill 2*. He resides in the Baldwin Mansion, located in the West South Vale district of Silent Hill, and is only encountered as a voice behind a locked door. He is speculated to be a ghost due to his reluctance to show himself. Ernest is a reclusive and misanthropic entity who desires solitude, possibly stemming from the tragic death of his daughter Amy, who fell from a window ten years prior. Driven by grief, Ernest seeks to resurrect his daughter through a ritual and enlists Maria's aid. He also seems aware of James Sunderland's sin, warning Maria that James is a dangerous man. Some theories suggest Ernest might be the author of the cryptic messages scattered around Silent Hill, possibly to guide or warn James and uncover the truth. Speculation also links him to the role of Director of Brookhaven Hospital, further adding to his enigmatic nature.
