Jennifer Carroll is a historical figure in Silent Hill, venerated as a saint by the local religious institution known as "the Order." She was executed, purportedly by Christians, in a political conflict. This event was misunderstood by future generations as a dispute concerning the Order's creation. Considered a saint and martyr by the Order, her tombstone stands as a monument in Rosewater Park, engraved with the words "What happened here shall never be forgotten." In Silent Hill 2, her name and the "Victim of persecution by the Christians" part of her monument are scratched off, possibly to conceal blame on Christians. In Silent Hill 3, a painting portraying Jennifer as a saint can be found in the cult's chapel with the inscription, "St. Jennifer: Unwavering Faith Under Death's Blade." In the Silent Hill film, Jennifer was burned alive by the ancestors of the cultists, a deviation from the game's lore. A painting of her burning, titled 'The First Burning', is featured and confirmed to be Jennifer.
