Alex Shepherd is the protagonist of Silent Hill: Homecoming. He returns to his hometown to find that his father and younger brother, Joshua, have disappeared, and his mother has fallen into a near-catatonic state. Alex embarks on a search for his brother, a journey that takes him through his hometown of Shepherd's Glen and ultimately to Silent Hill. Alex's childhood experiences also play a significant role; he received combat training from his father and was close to his neighbor Elle Holloway. He harbors a strong desire to leave his hometown and longs to do something that matters. Throughout the game, Alex's personality can shift based on player choices, appearing compassionate or heartless. Due to spending four years in a mental hospital, Alex suffers from some form of mental illness, making some of his experiences possibly delusional. Despite seeming jealousy and teasing, Alex genuinely loved Joshua, and Joshua's death was a massive trauma for him, possibly resulting in post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD). Alex's journey unveils the link between the Shepherd family and Silent Hill, along with the ancient sacrificial pact to protect their town.
