Carol Pendleton

Carol Pendleton is the ex-wife of Murphy Pendleton, the protagonist of *Silent Hill: Downpour*, and the mother of Charlie Pendleton. Her marriage to Murphy fell apart following the death of their son, as she blamed him for not being able to protect him from his killer. Despite being described as a forgiving and loving person, Carol was overwhelmed by grief after the loss of her son, and held Murphy responsible, ultimately leaving him. She was once Murphy's best friend and wife, but their lives changed forever after their son, Charlie, was kidnapped and murdered. Carol appears twice in the game: once in a flashback with a newborn Charlie alongside Murphy, and again in Murphy's 'Execution' ending, where she is seen crying sorrowfully. While not the canonical ending, Carol's image portrays the immense grief and blame a mother experiences upon losing her child. A letter in the game reveals Carol's anger and desperation towards Murphy, as well as her determination never to contact him again. Overall, Carol Pendleton represents a tragic example of the emotional trauma and broken relationships that are so characteristic of the characters in the *Silent Hill* series.
