Melissa Matlan is an art curator in Silent Hill: Downpour, working at Fenders Fine Art and Appraisals. Before the events of the game, she attempted to collect six pieces of artwork scattered around Silent Hill. These artworks were owned by private collectors whom she threatened and blackmailed to acquire them. Her goal was to solve a puzzle that would lead her to hidden treasures. Players can solve this puzzle in the sidequest "The Art Collector." According to her letters, Melissa is a self-centered and determined individual who often disregards others' feelings to achieve her goals. Her threats suggest a negative, self-centered, and tenacious personality. Whether this directly led to her demise remains uncertain. In the Silent Hill series, Matlan is not a main character; she appears as a side character only in Silent Hill: Downpour. Her existence mainly serves to drive a side quest and develop the game’s plot, showcasing the diverse individuals within Silent Hill.
