Demon Child

The "Demon Child," also known as Grey Child, in Silent Hill is a child-like monster encountered in the game. They first appear in the game *Silent Hill* and are the first enemies Harry Mason encounters in the town. These monsters have a pale, grayish-green skin, mouths that resemble gaps, slits for eyes, and wield long knives. They move quickly and typically attack in groups, leaping to grab victims by the legs. In the game, players must rapidly press buttons and wiggle the analog stick to break free from their grasp. Grey Children are believed to be a distorted perception of Alessa Gillespie's classmates due to bullying, symbolizing the pain and ridicule she endured. In the *Silent Hill* movie, they are depicted as children burning from the inside out and shrieking in pain, further emphasizing their symbolic suffering. While they appear in the North American version of the game, they were replaced with 'Mumblers' in European and Japanese versions due to their child-like appearance being deemed too sensitive by censors.
