The Creeper is an insectoid monster appearing in the Silent Hill series. They first appear in Silent Hill and Silent Hill 2, and are a manifestation of Alessa Gillespie's dislike of insects. These creatures are hostile to humans, move with great speed, and react strongly to light. After the collapse of Alessa's Otherworld, the power of the town intensified, manifesting the unconscious minds of ordinary people. Consequently, Creepers could still be seen throughout the town when James Sunderland came to Silent Hill in search of his wife. In the game, players can avoid confrontation with them by turning off their flashlight. They typically attack from the ground, biting at the protagonist's ankles. While they can be quickly defeated by stomping on them, this method can be tedious when they appear in large numbers. In Silent Hill, Creepers resemble large cockroaches with three pairs of legs and two long antennae. In Silent Hill 2, they are slightly smaller, have a green tinge to their bodies, and lack the antennae-like tails on their back. They emit a low chirp and a sound like a small wheel squeaking. In the 2006 film adaptation of Silent Hill, the Creepers are depicted as being created by Alessa, with tiny human faces under their heads, representing the memories of those she killed, trapped in monstrous insect bodies.
