Banshee, whose real name is Sean Cassidy, is a fictional superhero appearing in Marvel Comics. He is an Irish mutant with a powerful “sonic scream” capable of harming enemies’ auditory systems and causing physical vibrations. Banshee is named after the banshee, a legendary female spirit from Irish mythology said to possess a haunting cry. He was a former Interpol agent and NYPD police officer. Banshee was always a decade older than most of the X-Men and had only a relatively short tenure as a full-time X-Man. He was a mentor of the 1990s-era junior team Generation X and the founder of X-Corps. Throughout his comic book history, Banshee has faced numerous resurrections, including being revived under villain control and a rebirth during the Krakoan Age. He possesses superhumanly powerful lungs, throat, and vocal cords that can produce a sonic scream, coupled with limited psionic abilities to direct his sonic vibrations. Beyond his sonic powers, Banshee is also a gifted detective, veteran undercover operative, and skilled combatant with expertise in strategy and tactics. He is also a fan of American country music and an amateur pianist.
