Iceman, whose real name is Robert "Bobby" Louis Drake, is a fictional superhero appearing in Marvel Comics and a founding member of the X-Men. Created by writer Stan Lee and artist Jack Kirby, the character first appeared in The X-Men #1 (Sept. 1963). Iceman is a mutant with the ability to control ice and cold. He can create ice by freezing the water vapor around him, and can also cover or transform his own body into ice. Despite having the potential of an Omega-level mutant, he has yet to fully tap into his abilities. Over the years, he has become increasingly interested in developing his powers. Iceman has had a frequent presence in X-Men and Spider-Man related comics, video games, animated series, and movies. He is a powerful mutant who can manipulate temperature, reaching absolute zero, and possesses various other powers, including matter manipulation and molecular-level control. Iceman is also one of the most notable and powerful gay characters in the Marvel Universe, having been revealed as gay in a storyline retcon in 2015.
