Nightcrawler, whose real name is Kurt Wagner, is a fictional superhero character in Marvel Comics, commonly associated with the X-Men. He is a mutant with superhuman agility, the ability to teleport, and adhesive hands and feet. His physical mutations include indigo-colored fur, pointed ears, yellow eyes, three-fingered hands, and a prehensile tail. Initially, Nightcrawler was portrayed as a happy-go-lucky practical joker and teaser, as well as a fan of swashbuckling fiction. He is a Catholic, and while this was not emphasized in his earlier comic book appearances, later depictions show him being more vocal about his faith. Nightcrawler's origins are complex; initially raised by the sorceress Margali Szardos, it was later revealed that his biological parents are the mutant Mystique and her then partner Destiny, conceived when Mystique shapeshifted into a male form. Nightcrawler is a long-time member of the X-Men, and also a former member of the British superhero team Excalibur. He has appeared in numerous comic series, animated series, video games, and was portrayed by different actors in the movies X2, X-Men: Apocalypse, Deadpool 2, and Dark Phoenix.
