Polaris, whose real name is Lorna Dane, is a fictional superheroine appearing in Marvel Comics. Created by Arnold Drake, Don Heck, Werner Roth, and Jim Steranko, she first appeared in The X-Men #49 in 1968. Lorna is a mutant with the power to control magnetism, similar to her father Magneto. She has been known by other names, such as Malice and Pestilence.
Throughout her comic book history, Lorna Dane has been a member of both the X-Men and X-Factor, as well as an antagonist when under the control of villains. She has been mind-controlled into leading the Marauders and was briefly one of Apocalypse's Horsemen, known as Pestilence. She has a long, on-again, off-again relationship with the X-Men member Havok. Polaris possesses the ability to manipulate magnetic fields, allowing her to control metal, create force fields, fly, and perceive electromagnetic energy patterns. She can also, in certain instances, absorb negative emotions to increase her power. Her identity is complex, wrestling with both the struggles of being a mutant and her complicated relationship with Magneto. Polaris has made frequent appearances in various Marvel media adaptations, including animations, video games, and the live-action TV series The Gifted.
