Scorpion is the name of multiple characters in Marvel Comics, almost all of whom are supervillains. The best-known incarnation is Mac Gargan, who is typically an enemy of Spider-Man. Gargan was originally a private investigator hired by J. Jonah Jameson to find out how Peter Parker obtained photos of Spider-Man. Later, Jameson decided to use Gargan as a test subject in an experiment to give him the powers of a scorpion, making him a weapon against Spider-Man. However, this experiment caused Gargan to go insane and become a supervillain living a life of crime. Besides Mac Gargan, there are other versions of Scorpion, including a monster scorpion, Sam Scorpio, Jim Evans, Elaine Coll, and others. The Mac Gargan version of Scorpion also became the host of the Venom symbiote and joined the Dark Avengers as Spider-Man. Scorpion typically wears a high-tech battle suit equipped with a mechanical tail, making him a formidable opponent for Spider-Man. In different comics and animated versions, Scorpion's abilities and equipment vary, but his identity as a villain remains largely unchanged.
