Thanos is a fictional supervillain appearing in Marvel Comics, created by Jim Starlin. He first appeared in The Invincible Iron Man #55 in February 1973. An Eternal-Deviant warlord from Titan, one of Saturn's moons, Thanos is regarded as one of the most powerful beings in the Marvel Universe. His objective is to bring what he deems "balance" to the universe by eliminating half of all life to solve resource depletion. He seeks the Infinity Stones and has used the Infinity Gauntlet to achieve his goal, clashing with heroes like the Avengers and Guardians of the Galaxy. Influenced by Jack Kirby's 'New Gods,' particularly Darkseid, Thanos is a complex character. Beyond comics, he's a major antagonist in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, portrayed by Josh Brolin. His powerful presence and complex motivations make him one of Marvel's most compelling villains.
