Piantas are a fictional race that debuted in the Super Mario series, specifically in Super Mario Sunshine. They are humanoid beings residing on Isle Delfino, characterized by small palm trees growing on their heads. The name "Pianta" means "plant" in Italian, suggesting their possible botanical origins. Piantas come in various skin colors, including pink, green, brown, purple, red, orange, yellow, and blue. They typically wear grass skirts or dresses and are generally laid-back, friendly, and quite strong, albeit with short tempers. In Super Mario Sunshine, Piantas share their island home with the Nokis, primarily residing in Pianta Village. Many Piantas earn a living by producing and selling fruits. They are known to be able to throw Mario, often aiding him in reaching higher platforms. Piantas have also appeared as spectators, characters, or playable characters in other games, such as the Mario Kart series, Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door, the Mario Baseball series, and the Mario Party series, highlighting their diversity within the Mario universe. In Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door, they even form a criminal organization, the Pianta Syndicate, rivaling the Robbo Gang. Piantas in Mario games are not just charming creatures, they play various roles. Their kindness, slight short temper, and impressive strength add a lot of color to the Mario world.
