Goomba (Japanese: クリボー, Kuribō) is one of the most common enemies in Nintendo's Super Mario series. They first appeared in 1985's Super Mario Bros., appearing as brown, mushroom-like creatures, typically without arms but with two feet. Goombas are characterized by their bushy black eyebrows and fangs protruding from their lower jaw. They wander aimlessly in games, often serving as obstacles that players must jump over or otherwise defeat. Goombas have appeared not only in games but also in film, television, and other media. Despite being weak enemies in games, they are one of the most iconic elements of the Super Mario series and one of the most famous enemies in video games. There are many variations of Goombas in different games, such as winged Flying Goombas and Micro Goombas. They even appear as friendly characters in the Paper Mario series and occasionally as playable characters.
