The Buzzy Beetle, known as Met in Japanese (メット), is a recurring enemy in the Super Mario franchise. Despite its name, it is not actually a beetle, but rather a quadrupedal Koopa subspecies characterized by its smooth, dark blue shell, which makes it immune to fireballs. Buzzy Beetles are commonly found in underground areas. They behave similarly to Koopa Troopas, walking back and forth. When Mario jumps on them, they retreat into their shell, which can then be kicked like a Koopa Shell to attack other enemies. In some games, they can also climb on ceilings and drop down to attack. Unlike Koopa Troopas, Buzzy Beetles cannot be forced out of their shells, and their shells are resistant to fire. They can be defeated by Ice Flowers, Super Stars, or Spin Jumps. Various variants of Buzzy Beetles exist, such as Spike Tops, Bony Beetles, and Para-Beetles.
