Spiny

Spiny, also known as トゲゾー (Togezo), is a recurring enemy in the Super Mario series. They are four-legged turtle-like creatures with a red, spiky shell. First appearing in Super Mario Bros., they are often thrown by Lakitus from the sky. A notable characteristic of Spinies is that they cannot be defeated by jumping on them; instead, Mario will take damage. They can be defeated with fireballs, ice balls, the Super Star, or a POW Block. Spinies are frequently seen alongside Lakitus, and their shells sometimes appear as items or obstacles in games like Mario Kart. Their behavior can vary between games, such as turning into a Spiny Egg in water, or being eaten and spat out as a projectile by Yoshi. Spinies are a common obstacle throughout the Super Mario franchise, adding to the game's challenge.
