Languages:

  • Chinese: 海鳗
  • English: Eel
  • Japanese: ウナギ
In the Super Mario series, eel enemies appear in various forms, most commonly including Dragoneel, Maw-Ray (formerly known as Unagi), and Spike Eel. Dragoneel, debuting in New Super Mario Bros. U, is a gigantic eel with angry eyes and zigzag-shaped red jaws. They chase players and can only be defeated with a Super Star. Maw-Ray, first appearing in Super Mario 64, is a huge maroon-colored moray eel, usually nesting in underwater cavities and lunging at players who approach. Spike Eel, first seen in Super Mario 3D Land, is a magenta eel with purple spikes. These eel enemies often lurk in the water, challenging players with their unique attack patterns. Additionally, Super Mario Bros. has unused enemies and game mechanics that were not implemented in the actual game. For instance, an unused fast counter-clockwise firebar enemy exists but is never used. Overall, these eel enemies add variety and challenge to Mario's adventures, playing distinct roles across various games, although they sometimes appear as cameos or background characters.
