Yamato

Yamato (ヤマト), also known as Tenzō (テンゾウ) or Kinoe (Kinoe), is a character from the anime and manga series *Naruto*. Originally an Anbu operative, he was later appointed as a Jonin by Tsunade and given the name Yamato to take over Kakashi's position as the leader of Team 7, composed of Naruto, Sakura, and Sai. In his youth, he was trained under Danzo as Kinoe and later became a subordinate of Kakashi when the latter was the captain of the Anbu, at which time he adopted the name Tenzō. Yamato is unique because he possesses the Wood Release kekkei genkai of the First Hokage, Hashirama Senju, which is a result of being experimented on by Orochimaru as a child and surviving the implantation of Hashirama’s cells. Yamato is cautious and discreet, but can be stern, often using a creepy expression to keep his team in line. He is a loyal ninja to his village and team, and he demonstrates great strength and a variety of ninjutsu in battle, including Wood Release, Water Release, and Earth Release. Throughout the story, he assists Naruto and his comrades numerous times and is captured during the Fourth Shinobi World War, only to be freed later and continue fighting for his village and comrades. Yamato is an important mentor and ally in Naruto’s growth.
