Sengoku, also known as "Sengoku the Buddha," is a significant character in One Piece. He was the Fleet Admiral of the Marines, succeeding Kong and preceding Sakazuki. He was a major figure during the era of Gol D. Roger, alongside Whitebeard, Shiki, and Monkey D. Garp. After the Marineford War, Sengoku retired as Fleet Admiral but remained in the Marines as a General Inspector. He is renowned for his brilliant military tactics and firm belief in absolute justice, as well as his combat prowess. He possesses the Mythical Zoan-type Devil Fruit, Hito Hito no Mi, Model: Daibutsu, allowing him to transform into a giant golden Buddha. Sengoku adopted Donquixote Rosinante and X Drake. He joined the Marines young and participated in many significant events. Over time, his faith in the World Government waned, leading to his resignation. He is compassionate, grieving Rosinante's death and concerned for civilians' safety. Post-retirement, he is more relaxed, yet remains vigilant against global threats.
