Tangled is a 2010 American computer-animated musical fantasy comedy film produced by Walt Disney Animation Studios. Directed by Nathan Greno and Byron Howard, and produced by Roy Conli, with a screenplay by Dan Fogelman, the film is loosely based on the German fairy tale "Rapunzel" by the Brothers Grimm. It tells the story of a young princess named Rapunzel, who has magical long blonde hair and yearns to leave her secluded tower. She accepts the aid of an intruder, the outlaw Flynn Rider, to take her to the world she has never seen. The movie spent six years in production and had an estimated cost of $260 million, making it one of the most expensive animated films ever made. The film was a commercial and critical success, grossing $592 million worldwide. Tangled has expanded into a franchise with the short film Tangled Ever After, the television series Rapunzel's Tangled Adventure, and the television film Tangled: Before Ever After. The stories follow Rapunzel’s adventures as she explores the world, fights various villains, and ultimately finds her place as a princess. The film’s success also influenced the style and marketing of subsequent Disney animated movies.
