Fist of the North Star (1986)

Fist of the North Star (1986) is a Japanese adult animated post-apocalyptic martial arts film produced by Toei Animation, based on the manga of the same name. Unlike the TV anime series, the film is not a direct adaptation of the manga, but instead tells an alternate story that rearranges characters and plot elements from the manga's first 72 chapters. The film retains the more violent content of the original manga, which the television series lacked. The story is set after a global nuclear war that has turned most of Earth into a contaminated wasteland, with humanity's survivors now fighting over the few remaining uncontaminated food and water supplies. Kenshiro, a master of the deadly martial art Hokuto Shinken, travels with his fiancée Yuria when they are attacked by Kenshiro's former friend Shin, a master of the rival Nanto Seiken style. Shin defeats Kenshiro, scars his chest with seven wounds, and takes Yuria. A year later, Kenshiro is a hero protecting the weak. He meets Bat and Lin, and allies himself with Nanto Seiken master Rei. Together, they battle numerous villains including Jagi, Shin, and Raoh. Ultimately, Kenshiro fights Raoh, but Yuria mysteriously disappears during the battle. The film is known for its intense fight scenes, impressive post-apocalyptic background scenery and complex characters.
